Students

Nearly 30,000 students at ULiège

The University of Liège reports 29,972 students in its 2026 key figures, with 11 faculties and 70 partner countries. The figure covers the whole university, whose four campuses are spread over three towns.2

They need a lunch menu that shows at lunchtime, and a reason to come back the following week.

Local food

Meatballs, the Carré and 77 MICHELIN restaurants

At Le Bistrot d’en Face, a Lyon-style bouchon in the historic centre, Liège-style meatballs come in a black casserole with homemade compote for €19.50; the MICHELIN Guide rates them among the best in town.34

The Carré, which the guide calls Liège’s trendy district, is home to Caudalie and its set menu that changes every month.5

For Liège and its surroundings the MICHELIN selection lists 77 restaurants: 2 with two stars, 15 with one star, 17 Bib Gourmands and 43 selected addresses. Of these, 62 flag vegetarian options, 24 vegan and 23 gluten-free; 52 have a terrace.6

For your menu

When the set menu changes monthly and prices move, the menu has to follow without another trip to the printer.

Visitors and languages

A selection that crosses the border

The MICHELIN selection for Liège and its surroundings also takes in restaurants in Maastricht and Eijsden, in the Netherlands, and in Tongeren.6

For your menu

If some of your guests come over from the Netherlands, a menu in Dutch saves them the guesswork.

Local rules

Terraces: permission from the city council

In Liège no terrace goes up on the public highway without permission from the Collège communal, the city’s executive. You must be a trader (a non-profit association cannot get one), hold a valid permit and have paid the previous year’s fee, unless it is a first installation.7

Paying the fee gives you neither the permit nor the right to set up; not paying it amounts to giving the permit up.7

The form, a precise plan and proof of payment go to the Bureau de Police administrative, Potiérue 5, 16th floor (+32 4 221 81 80, [email protected]), open on weekdays from 9am to noon.7

For your menu

The fee comes round every year, so build it into what you charge on the terrace.

With Menyu

What Menyu brings to a Liège restaurant

Your paper menu stays on the table and in the window. Menyu publishes the online version, at the same prices, behind a QR code; here is how it works for a Liège restaurant.

  • The set menu changes, the menu follows

You change a price or a dish from your phone and the online menu is up to date once you publish, with the same QR code. You can also limit a category to set hours, on your restaurant’s time: the lunch menu drops off in the evening.

    • Categories visible at set hours, in your time zoneIncluded
  • Bringing students back

With Premium, guests try their luck on the menu: nine games, up to twelve prizes, a single-use voucher sent by e-mail, and an optional link to your Google listing. At the start of term, an e-mail campaign reaches your subscribers, with no text messages.

Questions

Questions and answers

How do I apply for a terrace in Liège?

Through the Bureau de Police administrative: an application form, a precise plan of the set-up and, unless it is your first request, proof that last year’s fee was paid. The permit is granted by the Collège communal.

The office is on the 16th floor at Potiérue 5; it answers on +32 4 221 81 80 and at [email protected], on weekdays from 9am to noon.7

Is paying the fee enough to put out my terrace?

No. The city spells it out: paying the fee is neither a permit nor a right to set up a terrace. Conversely, not paying it means giving up the permit.7

Can I take down the posted menu and keep only the QR code?

No. The FPS Economy says prices must be readable from outside without scanning anything; a QR code can only come on top. The full rules are on our Belgium page.

Menyu works alongside the posted menu: it stays, and the QR code opens the full version.15

Display rules in Belgium
Should my Liège menu be in Dutch?

It depends on who you serve. The MICHELIN Guide groups restaurants in Maastricht and Eijsden, in the Netherlands, under Liège and its surroundings.

Menyu translates dishes into Dutch as into 24 other languages; the menu’s buttons stay in French or English.6

How do I reach ULiège students?

The university has 29,972 students on four campuses. A lunch menu that shows at lunchtime, then a reason to come back: with Premium, a game on the menu and a voucher sent by e-mail.2

Can my guests settle the bill online?

Not for a restaurant in Belgium: Menyu payment accounts can only be opened in France. Premium orders are paid at the counter.

Do these Liège restaurants use Menyu?

No. They are in the MICHELIN Guide selection, which lists 77 restaurants for Liège and its surroundings; we cite them as landmarks and did not contact them.6

Limits

What Menyu does not do

  • Online payment isn’t available to a Belgian venue: Menyu opens payment accounts in France only.
  • Translation covers the dishes; the basket and filters show in French or English, the opening status in French.
  • Bookings are confirmed by e-mail: no text message, no reminder before the visit.
  • Menyu does not talk to your till: receipts still come from your own cash register system.
